With over four decades immersed in the world of basketball, Jhong
Rapada brings a wealth of experience, passion, and cultural pride to the
court.
■ In 2005, Jhong immigrated to Canada, settling in Calgary, Alberta, where
he raised his family and rediscovered his love for the game. His focus
shifted toward nurturing the next generation, beginning with his own
children and expanding into the broader community. Through coaching
and training, Jhong has become a dedicated mentor, helping young
athletes develop both on and off the court.
■ Jhong’s coaching experience spans grassroots, club, and college levels,
giving him a well-rounded perspective on athlete development. His ability
to connect with players of all ages and skill levels has made him a
respected figure in the basketball community.
■ As a proud Filipino, Jhong is passionate about sharing the deep cultural
connection between basketball and the Philippines. He believes the sport
is more than just a game—it’s a reflection of identity, resilience, and unity.
■ Most recently, in March 2026, Jhong served as Head Coach of the U16
Boys Canada Central – Filipino-Canadian Representative Team at the
NBTC tournament in Manila, Philippines. Leading a uniquely assembled
team made up of players from across Western Canada, the group
experienced both meaningful successes and inevitable challenges that
come with limited time together.
